Visit Vietnamese coffee's origin


Do you know much of Vietnamese coffee origins from Buon Me Thuot City, Dak Lak?

Dak Lak is a province in the center of Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) region 1410km from Hanoi and 350km from Ho Chi Minh City. It is home to Gong Culture – intangible cultural heritage recognised by the UNESCO. Moreover, it is the largest coffee growing region and has the largest coffee export volume in Vietnam. Besides, Dak Lak is inhabited by many ethnic minorities such as the Ede, Bahnar, Giarai, etc. Each ethnic group has its unique culture, which varies and strengthens the culture of Tay Nguyen region.



There are a plenty of beautiful scenes and old as well as cultural and historical relics.

1/Don Village (Buôn Đôn) – Home to wild elephants hunters and trainers


Location: at Krông Na, about 40-50km to the North-West of Buon Ma Thuot.

Activities:

-        Riding elephants crossing the Serepok River, and exploring Yok Don National Park.
-        Homestaying at stilt houses.
-        Canoeing on the dugout canoe crossing the Serepok River to seven-branch waterfall.
-        Enjoying Can wine.





2/Ako Dhong Village (Buôn Ako Dhong) – ancient village of Ede people.


Location: at the end of Tran Nhat Duat road.

The village is often called as “The village of tile-roofed houses” or “Ama Rin Village”. It was built up by Ama Rin a long time ago, gaining its fame with the extraordinary longhouses of the Ede and a beautiful picturesque landscape surrounding. Moreover, you can explore its traditional customs, and crafts like weaving.



3/Fierce waterfalls:

On the way heading to Dac Nong, you can come across with some imposing waterfalls such as the Dray Sap, Dray Nur, and Gia Long.


4/Buon Ma Thuot Central Market:

It is a good option for trying local food and observing locals in their daily lives.


5/Buon Ma Thuot Coffee:

The coffee in Buon Ma Thuot is so famous in Vietnam that either one’s name comes up will immediately remind of the other one’s name. That’s why you cannot leave Buon Ma Thuot without trying a cup of coffee here. Also, you can watch coffee-making procedure at coffee plantations.

Buon Ma Thuot hosts the 6th Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival and Central Highlands Gong Festival 2017 which takes place from 8 to 13 March 2017.
